This piece was the third in a series of "Self-deadline" works. I had decided to give myself a "30-day Challenge" to create a small assemblage every day for a month. This was also the last piece of that challenge, as I came to the conclusion that I cannot create to order on a schedule. My works evolve through a process that cannot be rushed, nor encapsulated. Some pieces may sit for months or years, as I wait for that one magic "spark" of inspiration, when a particular bead, or stone, or finding, jumps to hand and says, "Me! Put me into THAT work, now!" And so I do. Some days, I feel like I am merely the mechanical means for the stuff to be brought together, it arranges itself with little input from me...

But this piece, being a "You WILL create and complete this TODAY!" assignment, fought me. It was the first time I had attempted to use chain around the edges, though. I liked the way it framed the piece, and that became a technique to keep for future use. Its base is a plastic meal container, recycled. This year, I returned to the piece, and embedded it in resin. It was time... ;)
