HI There, Thanks for the invite to join in. It's always fun to talk with others who are interested in the same things. I never knew that it's called Assemblage Art. In college we spent a semester working on this type of project, and I loved it! My husband has a woodshop in our basement and my son worked with exotic woods so I had them build me boxes to work with. I used pieces of smooth driftwood, and glass. Since most of my work was contemporary, I always ended up with a linear type design. The layering effect was very interesting though. You will need to inform me of how one goes about assembling the type of art that you do. Is it themed? Sounds very interesting to me. Thanks, Donna

Hello, Donna, I am SO glad you've joined us!
Ooooh, the exotic wood boxes make me drool just thinking about them!
My works are very loosely themed, in that they usually start with one really neat doo-dad that catches my eye, and then I will start setting aside various other pieces that "go with" it, either in subject matter (like the Southwest Dreams piece), or color (the WIP with a Mayan-type head on a wooden bowl is developing into browns and teals). But, there's very little linear development for me, I spend a lot of time shuffling bits around, or digging thorough my stashes of stuff, trying to find a piece that looks "right" to my eye.
On a good day, when my muse strikes, it seems like the pieces almost jump to hand that go together, and some works will sit for a week or longer between sessions.
I have some small pieces of driftwood that I am going to try to incorporate into a few works, but as of yet, they haven't "spoken" to me, so they sit in a box awaiting their time...
